How HotProducts ranks products

Our full selection process, stated plainly — including what we don't do.

The short version

HotProducts ranks products using publicly available Amazon performance data — bestseller rank, star rating, review count, and price movement. We do not physically test products. We are a data-driven curation site, not a hands-on review lab. Everything below explains exactly what that means.

The signals we rank on

  • Amazon Best Sellers Rank (BSR)— a product's sales position within its category. Products ranked in the top 3 of their category carry a Best Seller badge.
  • Star rating — the average customer rating. Products rated 4.7 stars or higher carry a Top Rated badge.
  • Review count — how many customers have actually weighed in. We favor products with a long track record of reviews over new or unproven listings, because a 5.0 average across 11 reviews is noise and a 4.6 across 40,000 is a signal.
  • Price and discount movement— current price range against list price. Our sale pages rank by genuine discount depth combined with purchase velocity, so a deep cut on something nobody buys doesn't outrank a real one.

Category pages and buying guides combine these into a single ordering. Where two products are close, the higher-rated one wins.

What we do not do

  • We do not test products in a lab or in person. No unit is purchased, benchmarked, or used by our team before it appears on this site. If you need teardown-level testing, read a dedicated review outlet alongside us.
  • We do not accept payment for placement. No manufacturer or seller can buy a spot, a badge, or a ranking position.
  • We do not invent reviewers. Every guide on this site is published under the HotProducts name. There are no fictional expert personas or stock-photo bylines.
  • We do not quote live prices. Prices shown are from our last data refresh and are approximate. Always confirm on Amazon before buying.

How our data is refreshed

Product data is pulled from Amazon on an automated schedule, with the deals and sale batch refreshed daily. Ratings, review counts, and prices change constantly; each product carries the date it was last refreshed. A product that has fallen out of favor since our last pull can still be listed — the refresh date tells you how much to trust the numbers.

How our guides are written

Product selection and ordering within every guide is determined by the ranking signals above — that part is data, not opinion. The explanatory prose around those picks is drafted with AI assistance and reviewed before publication. We think stating this is more useful than pretending otherwise. What the prose will never do is claim first-hand experience we don't have.

How affiliate commissions affect this

HotProducts participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and earns from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. Because commission rates differ by category, our commercial interest influences which categories we cover most heavily. It does not influence the ordering of products within a category — that follows the objective signals above. See our affiliate disclaimer for the full statement.
